Following a discussion of your options, you may choose to have your tooth retreated. Your tooth with be reopened to gain access to the root canal filling material. In many cases, crowns, posts and core material must be disassembled and removed to permit access to the root canals.
- Step 1: After removing the canal filling, your tooth will be cleaned and the canals of your tooth carefully examined, searching for any additional canals or unusual anatomy that requires treatment.
- Step 2: Once the canals are cleaned, the canals will be filled then sealed and a temporary filling will be placed in the tooth. If the canals are unusually narrow or blocked, endodontic surgery may be recommended.
- Step 3: Once retreatment is completed, you will need to return to your dentist as soon as possible to have a new crown or other restoration placed on the tooth to protect and restore it to its full function.
